Administration and planning¶
Layout and plans¶
Detailed plans of the building (and university campuses more generally) can be accessed using SISfm, a spatial information system provided by IFM. Access to the site is provided with UTAS credentials sans domain. The platform is a little janky, but the critical components, notably where to select the building and how to change the floor are shown on the image below:
In order to access the physics building, select //AU14 physics// from the menu on the right-hand side. Note that this menu occasionally does not load properly (at least when using [[https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/|firefox]]) but a refresh usually solves the issue. Plans for different floors are accessed through the //plans// selection on the toolbar (the icon looks like a stack of white paper facing outwards).
Office occupancy¶
A list of student and staff offices along with contact numbers can be found here. For any updates to the spreadsheet, please contact SNS Admin.
Mechanical and electronic facilities¶
There is a utility of physics having its own prototyping facility, but whilst this d
3D printing¶
Chemistry has multiple flavours of 3D printers which fall into two categories, consumer grade (FDM in the form of PRUSA MKs, SLA) and industrial grade (Polyjet in the form a (Strarsys Eden) system). Contacts for the two categories of printer are Petr Smejkal and Daniel Sowerby respectively.
Infrastructure and access¶
Bike storage¶
Secure bike storage is available in room 139, which is on level one next to the lift. Access to the room is via swipe card and use is granted to people in maths, physics, CODES, and GPSS, but has generally low rates of utilisation, meaning that there will always be space for your bike. To get access to the bike store, one must the service portal:

The request will wend its way though the bureaucracy and then hopefully you will receive access. Should you encounter any issues along the way Let me know how you go and if there are any issues of which I should be aware.
Computational systems and digital infrastructure¶
Software¶
A discussion of the available software packages can be found on the [software page][software].
Media array¶
An array of plasma screens exists on the 4th floor in the stairwell. These screens were set up some time ago, and have not displayed any content since at least April 2020. Details of the display can be found on the [[http://auscope0.phys.utas.edu.au/opswiki/doku.php?id=operations:big_screens|AuScope wiki]], but hopefully this will be updated with modern content in the near future.
Building maintenance¶
Most building management issues can be rectified by submitting a request for service from [[https://www.utas.edu.au/infrastructure-services-development|Infrastructure Services and Development]] (ISD). Unlike the [[https://utas1.service-now.com/nav_to.do?uri=%2Fselfservice%2F|service portal]], to which anyone can submit a request, ISD requests can only be submitted by registered staff members.
Registration¶
Note: the process described here was accurate as of 01/05/2020.
To register for the [[https://amis.utas.edu.au/|ISD request platform]], one must complete the [[https://www.utas.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0007/155545/Archibus_New_User_Request_Form1_July-2018.pdf|new user request form]] which should be forwarded to the [[mailto:csdsys.support@utas.edu.au|asset management information team]]. Once this has been processed, one should have access to the [[https://amis.utas.edu.au/|request platform]], branded as //ISD Connect//, but also refereed to as //Archibus//, owing to the [[https://archibus.com/|provider of the software-as-a-service platform]].
Submitting a request¶
To submit a request, the process is relatively straightforward: nominating to do so from the [[https://amis.utas.edu.au/|ISD Connect home page]] or navigating directly to the [[https://amis.utas.edu.au/SubmitRequest/|request submission page]]. The request type should be selected, and the other fields filled as necessary, with the exclusion of //Details// and //Activity// as they are moderated by ISD. Whilst it is not required that one provide a contact number, this is strongly advised as the person conducting the work will only get in contact through this number.
Minor building works¶
If minor building works are to be carried out, or even to obtain a quote to see if it is feasible to carry out building works, one must submit a [[https://www.utas.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/720055/CSD-minor-works-request-form.pdf|minor works request form]], which:
When completed this form must be signed by the Dean or Head of Division and forwarded to Campus Services
